Climate Week
March 22 - March 25, 2022

What is Planetary Health? This March, join the Mawazo Institute’s Climate Week to explore how human behaviour is changing our planet’s health, and what we can do about it. Through in-person and virtual events, we are presenting local research, ideas, and approaches to planetary health that can strengthen community networks and instigate urgent action on climate issues for individuals and institutions in Eastern Africa, and beyond.

Climate Week activities are organised under the Mawazo Institute's Voices Programme which amplifies the work of African researchers and shares findings on African women in higher education and research. Activities are also supported by funding from the Open Society Foundation and Falling Walls Engage Hub Kenya.

Climate Change Organisations and Initiatives To Know

Through our events, we hope to build stronger communities for change that can influence how we respond to the greatest crisis of our lifetimes. For Kenyan audiences, we have created a resource list of local green businesses that we think you should know about. To add to the list, simply drop us an email at: contact@mawazoinstitute.org.

Eastern Africa Challenges & Opportunities to Planetary Health

“Climate change is disproportionately impacting low and middle income countries, including Kenya and other Eastern African countries. We need African voices, especially women and indigenous populations, who are often disregarded in climate decision making." - Melvine Otieno

While Planetary Health is a global issue, the Eastern African region has its own challenges and opportunities surrounding the interlinkages of humans and nature. In partnership with the Planetary Health Eastern Africa Hub, this webinar introduces the concept of planetary health and dives into specifics for the region on the way towards planetary health.
