Mawazo Ideas Events: Building Platforms for Innovative Engagement

At Mawazo, we believe that ideas are the essence of creativity, the spark to innovation, and the call to research. This is why we invest in getting good ideas out into the public domain. To do this, we organise a variety of events under the Mawazo Ideas platform. These include, the Mawazo Ideas Night (MIN), a recurring public event that offers local researchers, scholars and other self-identifying nerds an informal and engaging platform to present their ideas to the public, and the Mawazo Ideas Exchange which gathers participants to deep dive into issues in their unique fields of practice.

Mawazo Ideas Night: Her Research Reality: Unveiling the Journey of African Women in Academia

During this edition of Mawazo Ideas Night, the Mawazo Institute hosted an event focused on addressing the poor representation of African women in research and academia. Four teams, grouped under the thematic areas of Environment, Gender, Technology, and Indigenous Knowledge, presented innovative solutions to this pressing issue. The event featured trivia questions for audience engagement and participation. The goal is to document emerging ideas, identify cross-sectoral innovations, and promote the integration of co-created knowledge into research practices to strengthen the collaborative process and enhance the impact of research efforts.
