Meet the New CEO of Mawazo Institute

Dear Friends of Mawazo,

It is with absolute pleasure that I accept my nomination from the Mawazo Board to take up the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Mawazo Institute as of June 1st 2022.

This announcement comes just after celebrating five years since the Mawazo Institute was founded, and just under a year since Mawazo embarked on a transitional period where I held a dual role as Acting CEO and Director of Programmes.

Up until August 2020, Mawazo was led by its co-founder, Dr. Rose M. Mutiso. I want to take this opportunity to thank you, Rose, for guiding Mawazo from its inception, through a period of tremendous growth, and seeding our vision. I am stepping into this role to build upon the incredible foundation laid down by you, and I am ready to lead Mawazo through its next chapter.

My focus as the CEO will be to continue staying true to the vision and mission of the organisation. This means delivering high-quality and high-impact programmes through the flagship Mawazo Learning Exchange Fellowship Programme, which currently has 40 Ph.D. Fellows, and our Mawazo Voices Programme, where we continue to engage experts and organisations as we add to the discourse on current development issues, while advocating for evidence-informed policy making on the continent.

I am excited to continue working with our passionate and dedicated team, talented beneficiaries, and committed funders and partners as we deliver diverse programming to ensure the ideas and voices of African women are at the forefront of addressing global development challenges. My ambition is to continue putting women and research at the heart of Mawazo, thus remaining true to our values and our purpose: supporting the next generation of African women researchers and the uptake of homegrown and evidence-based solutions to its pressing development needs.

I aim to lead with integrity, compassion, and an absolute belief that the future of Africa lies in the hands, hearts and minds of its women. I want to thank you for your support and continued collaboration as we embark on this next chapter of our journey.
