Mawazo Ideas Events: Building Platforms for Innovative Engagement

At Mawazo, we believe that ideas are the essence of creativity, the spark to innovation, and the call to research. This is why we invest in getting good ideas out into the public domain. To do this, we organise a variety of events under the Mawazo Ideas platform. These include, the Mawazo Ideas Night (MIN), a recurring public event that offers local researchers, scholars and other self-identifying nerds an informal and engaging platform to present their ideas to the public, and the Mawazo Ideas Exchange which gathers participants to deep dive into issues in their unique fields of practice.

Mawazo Ideas Night: Women and Science in Africa: A Silent Revolution

During this edition of Mawazo Ideas Night, Mawazo partnered with the Fondation L’Oréal, to screen Women & Science in Africa: A Silent Revolution, a documentary exploring how African women are impacting science and innovation on the continent. The film was followed by a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing African women scientists inspired by the documentary’s stories of women using science as a tool for development in Congo, Madagascar, and South Africa.

Mawazo Ideas Exchange: The Case for Science Engagement

In our third Mawazo Ideas Exchange, we hosted a moderated workshop on the case for science engagement with a group of experts from Africa and beyond. We discussed a range of different perspectives on why bringing science to policymakers and the public matters, and explored the future of science engagement. The event was organised in partnership with Falling Walls as part of Kenya’s first ever Falling Walls Engage Hub. You can watch highlights from the event here or a read the summary report here
